What to Wear in Madrid in Fall

As I packed my bags in anticipation of our move from Ottawa, Canada to Madrid, Spain in October 2015, I was convinced I would be the frumpiest person there. My day-to-day fall style veers more jeans, tees, and cardigans, and I imagined Madrid – and all of Spain – as a sea of voluptuous brunettes wearing bandage dresses and towering over me in stilettos.

I was prepared to stand out – and maybe not in the best way.

On those first few days that I explored the capital, I was shocked to find out that most of the stereotypes I had developed about Spanish women were in fact wrong. The ladies of Madrid (Madrileñas) had a distinct style, one that combined comfort and confidence, and looked both chic and badass.
