Anyone else been fawning over the Victoria’s Secret fashion show footage? My favorite photos are of the girls (they are girls, most aren’t even legally able to drink in the United States) heading to the airport to fly to Paris or being tourists around the Eiffel Tower. They look so good in their skinny jeans and boots!
A few years ago looking at those pictures would have given me so much self loathing. I would have half-wept over the fact that I didn’t have legs that long or arms that thin or lips that voluptuous.
Maybe it’s just age (I realized I’m absurdly close to 29 recently and it’s making me sweat). Maybe it’s all the yoga and Pilates I’ve been doing combined with taking time away from staring at these Amazonian women, but I look at them now and I think, good for them, they look awesome.
I think one of the keys to feeling good is filling your wardrobe with pieces that make you feel amazing. We all have outfits like that. We put them on and stand in front of the mirror and think, damn I look Good.

This outfit is that for me. I love the color of this blouse and how it’s cut. It comes in at the smallest part of my waist and flares out over my lower stomach. I love these high waisted black jeans and how long my legs look in them (I mean, long for me anyway) and these boots are my absolute favorite. They add height and make my legs look sculpted, but they’re still easy to walk in.
Why do we only buy a few pieces that make us feel this way? Why do we settle for a wardrobe filled mostly with pieces that are just, meh?
I do it myself. I buy shirts that are in fashion (plaid flannels, for instance) that don’t really suit my shape. I buy them because they’re cheap or they’re in fashion. But I don’t feel great in them. They dot make me feel fierce or do a little pouty lip in my bedroom mirror. I settle for looking good enough to leave the house.
We blame ourselves, our body shape, our big boobs, our flat butts. But ladies, listen up: it’s not you, it’s the clothes.
You are amazing exactly as you are.
Sure, we can always improve ourselves and there’s nothing wrong with working on it, but everything you buy should be for the body you have RIGHT NOW.
So for 2017 I’ve decided to ditch all the average clothes. I’m done blaming my chubby arms for looking bad in racerbacks or my thighs for looking weird in girlfriend jeans. I’m clearing out my wardrobe of all the clothes that aren’t doing the work for me. I hereby announce from this day forward I’m only going invest in clothes that make me feel like a total babe.
This month I’m going to be sending out a series of emails and videos that will help us all clear out the old and make room for the new and utterly spectacular. Let’s all look and feel like our best damn selves in 2017.
