Something about Black Friday really puts me off shopping at this time of year. It all seems so intense, so un-Christmas-like.
I’m a last minute person with pretty much everything. Planning vacations, getting ready to go out, and buying presents.
When I talked to friends and family this weekend they were all, “I’m done with my Christmas shopping!”
WHAT?! It’s not even December yet! I haven’t even written my gift guides for the year yet!
Why Shop Small Businesses?
I love Asos and Zara just as much as the next blogger, but I hate wearing the same thing as everyone else. One of the reasons I love small fashion retailers is because you can find pieces that are totally different to what’s on the High Street.
Sure, you’ll probably spend a little bit more, but you’ll have something unique and you’re supporting a budding entrepreneur. Small fashion businesses actualy CARE about their customers. They care about their fabrics and how they fit and how comfortable they are. They care about creating beautiful things and good quality and about spreading their brand to as many fashion lovers as possible.
Where to Shop
Here are a few of my favorite independent fashion retailers that you should definitely gift to your fashion loving pals this Christmas (or you know, to yourself – I won’t judge).
I’ve written about this petite boutique before. Their pieces are so feminine and they love what they’re doing. They are determined to bring petite women fashion pieces that you’d never find at your local mall. Follow along with them on Instagram to get their Cyber Monday code.
My friend Alyssa started this incredible animal loving fashion line earlier this year and the pieces are simply stunning. It’s all made in the USA, there are no animals harmed or tested on, no chemicals being dumped into the waters after dying the fabrics and no cheap labor being used. You can even donate while you shop. Look resort ready and feel good about doing it.
Who doesn’t love a good graphic-T these days? I love the travel themed t-shirts and bags. I’m actually wearing one of their t-shirts as I type this. They are crazy comfortable. Their apparel is the perfect gift for the travel lover in your life.
Denim, art, and giving back – this project is seriously fantastic. These eco-friendly, hand painted jeans and jackets are ridiculously stylish and the proceeds go to art therapy programs at Children’s hospitals in New York and LA. She even does them in Petite sizes! I swoon.
I love the message beyond Cuyana – fewer, better. It’s all about having a minimalist wardrobe (which you know I love) packed with good quality pieces that you can wear in tons of different ways. You’ll find top quality international leather, soft Italian cashmere, silk pieces made in the USA. I absolutely love their bags and leather accessories. They have pop-up stores leading up to Christmas in New York, LA, Chicago and San Francisco.
