Where to Shop in Stockholm on the High Street
When the sun is out, there’s nothing better than taking a stroll along one of Stockholm’s high streets. It’s not just a great way to shop, but it’s a fantastic way to explore the city and do some people watching, too. While the city is full of places to shop, these are three of the most popular high streets to shop in Stockholm.
Drottninggatan is the queen of shopping streets in Stockholm. It’s where you’ll find all of the big names and plenty of other options, too.
A major pedestrian street, Drottninggatan stretches almost two kilometers from the Rikbron in the Norrmalm district to the Observatorielunden in the Vasastaden district. The street is home to one of the city’s best department stores, Åhlens City, as well as international favorites like H&M, Zara, Stadium and more.
It’s also a wonderful place to walk even if you don’t plan to do any shopping. You can check out the fantastic archictecutre in the area and at the end of the street, you can even see the Swedish Parliament building. The street is also home to a number of fantastic cafes and restaurants, making it the ideal place for a little afternoon fika and people watching.
Götgatan is located in the ultra-hip Sodermalm neighborhood. It’s the place to see and be seen in Stockholm and of course, it’s where you find some of the most expensive shopping options in the city. It’s home to top end designers like Filippa K. There are general stores that sell high-end clothing and accessories like Bruno, TGR, and E. Torndahl.
Even if you’re on a budget, it’s a nice place to explore as a visitor to the city. You’ll also find a few mainstream staples like H&M. Götgatan has a little something for every shopper’s budget.
For more independent finds and vintage fares, venture south of Folkungagatan to explore the trendy SoFo neighborhood. Here you’ll find independent and local favorites specializing in clothing, jewelry, design and more. If you’re in the market for a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, this is the place to go!
3. Stora Nygatan
Stora Nygatan is located in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. Home to vintage shops and quirky comic book stores, Stora Nygatan is also the best place to go if you’re looking for that perfect trinket to commemorate your visit.
Whether you’re in the market for a Dala Horse or a Christmas Troll (my personal favorite), Stora Nygatan has all the souvenirs you could possibly want.
Where to Shop Indoors in Stockholm (Gallerian)
If the weather in Stockholm isn’t cooperating or you’re just not in the mood to be out on the street, there are a number of great malls to visit. These are three of the best malls, or Gallerian as they’re called here in Sweden, to shop in while you’re visiting Stockholm.
Sturegallerian is the most glamorous of Stockholm’s galleria and can be found in the heart of the city. If you want to find all of the best Swedish and international designers under one roof, this is the place to come. It’s spread over three floors and you’ll find everything from high-end boutiques offering fabulous shoe and clothing options for both men and women to stunning jewelry stores with diamonds big enough to blind you as you walk past.
